Taron Egerton, star of the Kingsman franchise, is a top Wolverine pick for many fans. Viewers consistently nominate him to play the part once the X-Men join the MCU. Based on looks and talent combined, we certainly see the appeal.

But the actor himself, recently acclaimed for his work in Rocketman, has different ideas. Taron Egerton shared his thoughts about playing Wolverine and joining the MCU at large in a Variety interview.

“I love Marvel, and I love the movies,” Egerton gushed while on the HFPA red carpet. “I’d love the excuse to get in shape, and I’d love to be a part of it.” But while his comment started off promisingly, he soon explained that Wolverine may not be the right choice for him.

A Humble Egerton

“Whether that one’s realistic or not, I don’t know,” he admitted. “But I’d love to be a part of it.” One reason he’s not particularly keen on taking on Wolverine is his good friend Hugh Jackman. His legacy is arguably the most successful part of the X-Men franchise. Taron Egerton insisted that if he played Logan, it would be “not as well as Hugh.”

Thankfully, there’s other roles to choose from. Fantastic Four joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside X-Men, and it’s more than likely that the next Guardians movie will introduce Adam Warlock. Beyond that, Disney+ and Phase 4 are poised to add plenty of cosmic characters throughout the Multiverse. Feige and fans can work together to find the perfect role for Egerton.
