Although the MCU appears to be in the middle of a slight intermission, it is showing no signs of slowing down.  San Diego Comic Con saw the announcements for Phase 4 and 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Those announcements from Kevin Fiege confirmed the return of villains the Mandarin and Baron Zemo.  However, we still do not know what supervillain will step in to play a major role across multiple films like Thanos did through the first 3 phases of the MCU. Welcome Galactus!

Doctor Strange facing off against Galactus.

MCU Cosmic is reporting that Marvel is to use the villain Galactus, and clues are pointing to him appearing in the next phase of movies. They are also reporting that his former herald Tyrant, is also going to make his MCU debut. Galactus is one of the most iconic villains in the history of Marvel and given that fans have been told that the next phase will deal more with space, it makes perfect sense.

Who is Galactus?

Galactus is known as the “Devourer of Worlds” in the Marvel comics. His powers are nearly unlimited. He has appointed a number of entities as his Heralds, imbuing them with the Power Cosmic. Tyrant was one of those heralds.  He uses energy from the core of planets and universal sources to sustain himself. He has currently been changed into the Lifebringer, who restores life to the planets Galactus has destroyed.

Galactus would also fit well into Marvel’s plan for future films. He is closely connected to the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer. While there has been no sign that we will see the Silver Surfer in phase 4 or 5, Fiege did already confirm that Fantastic Four was in development for phase 5. While all of this is still rumor and speculation at this point, I think Galactus is a good bet.
