Following the completion of the popular fantasy series Game of Thrones, more than half a dozen ideas for additional shows in the same universe circulated. In 2022, House of the Dragon became the first to make it to screen. Now, HBO is actively gearing up to launch another Thrones series. Today the network revealed key casting for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place a century before the events of Game of Thrones, when two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall , and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

Peter Claffey will play Ser Duncan. Claffey is an actor and former Connacht Rugby player. His recent credits include Apple TV’s Bad Sisters and Wreck. He will next appear in Small Things Like These with Cillian Murphy and season 3 of Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla.

Dexter Sol Ansell will play Ser Duncan’s squire, Egg. Ansell began his acting career at age four on ITV’s Emmerdale. He recently portrayed Young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. He will next appear in Channel 4’s Hullraisers and Robin and The Hood

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight draws on author George R.R. Martin’s “Dunk & Egg” books. Martin writes and executive produces the HBO series along with Ira Parker. Other executive producers also include Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.

In the general timeline of the history of Westeros, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will slot in after the events of House of the Dragon but before the events of Game of Thrones.

You can stream all of Game of Thrones on Max now. House of the Dragon season 2 premieres this summer. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates in the Thrones-verse.
