Maybe the original name for Rainbow Six Extraction of “Quarantine” jinxed the project a bit. Given the current situation, that is. How else do you explain this new delay in the release date?

Guess we’re going to have to wait a couple more months for that door to close.

Ubisoft has just announced an update on the development of Rainbow Six Extraction on July 16, 2021. Unfortunately, it’s not the update many people would like to hear. Ubisoft is apparently pushing back the release date of the game all the way to next year in January 2022. They make no more specific a date than that. This may be disappointing to those of you who had been waiting for this game to come out on June 8, 2021; save for the fact that you probably already knew that it wasn’t coming out on that date for a while now.

Rainbow Six Extraction: Delayed Once More

Those masks look like they would be horribly uncomfortable in a firefight.

Ubisoft themselves are remarkably vague about the reasons for the delayed release of Rainbow Six Extraction. Their exact words on the subject are:

Our ambition with Rainbow Six Extraction is to deliver a full-fledged AAA experience that changes the way you play and think about cooperative games. With unique features like Missing In Action or The Sprawl, every mission is set to be a tense and challenging experience in which you’ll lead the elite operators of Rainbow Six in a fight against a lethal and evolving alien threat.

We are embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022. We are confident this will ensure Rainbow Six Extraction is the immersive, cooperative, and thrilling experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire to play.

So yeah, apparently Ubisoft wants to make absolutely sure that this will be a good game before releasing it. Does anyone believe that to be the whole story? If so, you haven’t been paying attention to the news. That resurgence in COVID-19 probably has more to do with this delay than anything else. Still, look on the bright side: we might actually get a better game than we would have.

Rainbow Six x Left 4 Dead crossover?

Conclusion

Ubisoft is delaying the release of Rainbow Six Extraction once more. This time, the new release date is January 2022. They don’t get any more specific than that. Hopefully, this additional development time means that we get a really great sci-fi and possibly survival horror game. Or at least, a decently good game.
