Well, it appears that we now have a timeline as to when we’ll find out about the next installment in the Tomb Raider reboot games.

Out of the Mouth of CEOs

The first and still the best installment in the series. And ironically, the most ignored in terms of plot and characters.

Gaming Bolt just reported that Embracer Group has just streamed their Interim Report for Q2 July to September 2022 on YouTube. Why is this relevant to us in terms of Tomb Raider news, you might ask? Well, the spokesman acting as the narrator is none other than Phil Rogers: CEO of both Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal. During this Interim Report, Rogers mentions something very interesting about when the company will announce franchise plans. Check it out below:

We’ve not released details about franchise plans, but the team is excited to show where we’re heading, as soon as we can next year.

So presumably, since Embracer Group now owns the Tomb Raider franchise after Square Enix sold it off, we’re going to get news about it sometime in 2023. Admittedly, it’s more than a bit vague, but it’s concretely vague news coming from the company’s CEO. I think we can trust this news, so we can look forward to hearing about Lara Croft‘s next adventure next year.

More Tomb Raider News

You have to go through a lot of boredom to get to the Tomb Raider news, but it’s right there.

Phil Rogers also gives us more concrete news in that Interim Report. At 1:17:41, Rogers talks about what kind of game engine Lara Croft‘s next adventure will have. He mentions that at Unreal Fest, the “future of Tomb Raider is on Unreal 5″, referring to Unreal Engine 5. Unreal Engine 5, in case you didn’t know, is the game engine the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X is currently using.

So whatever the next Tomb Raider game is going to be, it’s definitely going to be for either the PS5 or the Xbox Series S/X. Likely both, just to make as much money off of both consoles as possible. Really, the only real question here is if this future Lara Croft adventure will be playable on older systems like the PS4 and Xbox One too? It would be nice if they didn’t abandon the older consoles just yet. You know, because very few people as of this writing even have either a PS5 or Xbox Series S/X? Unfortunately, this is something we’ll have to wait for next year to find out. Whether Sony and Microsoft will solve their supply issues or the backwards compatibility thing.
