It looks like we’re finally getting an update on that Tomb Raider anime project from Netflix. And this time, it involves expanding the list of cast members for said anime. They’ve even prepared a short video on the subject for us today. Check it out below:

I think the most pressing question in mind is: but what about Sam?

For Tomb Raider‘s 25th anniversary celebration, Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos-Montréal announced a pair of new voice cast joining in on Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime. Previously, the only confirmed talent was Haley Atwell (Captain America, Mission Impossible 7) playing the role of Lara Croft herself. Now 2 more talents are lending their voices to the anime.

Showrunner Tasha Huo (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Red Sonja) announced through that update video above that Allen Maldonado (Heels, The Wonder Years) and Earl Baylon will join Haley Atwell as part of the voice cast for Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime. Maldonado will be the voice of Zip: a tech expert and colleague of Lara Croft. Meanwhile, Baylon will reprise his role as Jonah Maiava from the games, acting as one of Lara’s most-trusted friends and voice of reason. Not to mention being one of Lara’s friends who isn’t either dead or put on a bus.

Fans of the original Tomb Raider reboot game from 2013 will notice that there’s still a distinct lack of Sam Nishimura. Despite these cast additions, there’s still no word if Sam will ever appear again ever since she vanished from the games. The official synopsis doesn’t give us any clues either, as you can see below:

“Picking up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider videogame Survivor trilogy as told in 2013’s Tomb Raider, 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, and 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the animated series will chart the globetrotting heroine’s next chapter as she takes on the role of the iconic tomb raider that she is destined to become. Twenty-five years after her first game appeared, Lara continues to explore new territory.”

I guess for the moment, Sam is still sitting on that bus. We’ll just have to wait for more info later on that front.

Conclusion

The Tomb Raider anime from Netflix is getting more cast members. Now in addition to Haley Atwell as Lara Croft, we’ll have Allen Maldonado as Zip from the older games, and Earl Baylon reprising his role as Jonah Maiava from the new games. Still no sign of Sam Nishimura though. Not from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, or Netflix. We’ll just have to hope that maybe, just maybe, they’ll return her from the bus they shoved her on.
