Deadline announced that Lisette Alexis (Total Eclipse) has landed the lead role in the National Treasure Disney+ series. Apparently, she will play main character Jess Morales in the series. Jess is “a Latina whose brilliant and resourceful mind loves a good mystery, and she has a natural talent for solving puzzles. Over the course of the show, Jess will uncover her own buried history, as well as the truth about her parents and her connection to a long-lost treasure”.

Unfortunately, there’s no sign of any other casting details for this National Treasure series. All we have is the main character Jess. and nothing more for now. We’ll just have to wait for more info from Disney later.

Now not with Nicholas Cage.

As you might expect from the title, the National Treasure series is going to be a spinoff of the original films starring Nicholas Cage. Marianne and Cormac Wibberly will return to co-write the series, but the series itself will feature a new director named Mira Nair (Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding). Jerry Bruckheimer and Jon Turteltaub will remain onboard as executive producers for this 10-episode series.

According to Deadline, production for this National Treasure series will start sometime in early 2022. That means that it will still be a pretty long while after that before we finally get to see it on Disney+. We’ll have to wait for more new from Disney on that front later.

The upcoming National Treasure Disney+ series just snagged Lisette Alexis to play the lead role of Jess Morales. She’s a pretty new and unknown actress at the moment, but that may change with this news. At least, once we get to see this series on Disney+. The early 2022 production date start means that won’t be for a long, long while though. At the very least though, we might get to see it before the third film in the original series. You know, the one starring Nicholas Cage.
