Did you know that Willy Wonka has a backstory? Well, he did mention it very briefly in that 1971 film, but it was a very brief and almost offhand mention that contained quite a few subtleties to it. Interestingly, it seems that Warner Bros. decided that was worth expanding on in this latest Wonka film. This prequel even did pretty well in the box office, and got some fairly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes alone, critics over 308 reviews gave the prequel a decently high combined score of 82%. Meanwhile, audiences on the same were even more receptive to the prequel, giving it 91% over 5000+ ratings. No matter how you look at it, Warner Bros. has a success story here. Thus, you can understand why they’re now bringing it to home video.

Wonka: Home Video Details

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment is proud to announce that they’re finally bringing Wonka to home video. Yes, we’ll finally get to see this version of Willy Wonka’s backstory by director Paul King and starring Timothée Chalamet in the titular role in the comfort of our homes. When will that be, you all might ask?

Well, this home video release will occur in two stages. The first stage will occur on January 30, 2024; when Wonka will be available for digital download. Early Premium Digital Ownership will be available for $24.99 SRP, while the 48-hour rental via PVOD will be available for $19.99 SRP. Both will be available on participating digital platforms like Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu, and more.

The second stage of this Wonka home video release will occur nearly a month later on February 27, 2024. It will be available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD from online and physical retailers. It will also continue to be available in high definition and standard definition from participating digital retailers.
