National Geographic has been a source of some rather entertaining documentaries for quite some number of years now. They have also been a source of quite a few controversies, but that is neither here nor there. What is relevant here is the fact that Arctic Ascent with Alex Honnold will be the latest in this series of documentaries. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out National Geographic’s official trailer for it below, and see if watching someone rock climb in one of the harshest environments known to humanity is your thing for yourself?

Arctic Ascent with Alex Honnold: Details

Seeing someone climb a sheer rock wall is giving me happy Horizon Forbidden West memories.

National Geographic is proud to announce Arctic Ascent with Alex Honnold via that official trailer above on YouTube. As you might guess, this documentary stars Alex Honnold: American free climber extraordinaire. In fact, this is the same guy who free solo climbed El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, all without climbing aid or climbing protection. Because free solo climbing literally means climbing with nothing but one’s bare hands covered in climbing chalk and climbing shoes. Seriously, now that’s Aloy levels of hardcore rock climbing.

But as for Arctic Ascent with Alex Honnold? Well, National Geographic has an official synopsis to give us an idea of what Alex Honnold is climbing next. You can check that out below:

Having long dreamed of exploring the unclimbed peaks of Greenland, Alex Honnold (“Free Solo”) embarks on an unprecedented quest to the frontline of the climate crisis in one of the most remote corners of earth. Now, with world-class climbers and scientists, he attempts to summit Ingmikortilaq, a virgin Arctic seacliff rising out of the frozen wilderness, nearly 1,000 feet higher than El Capitan. For Honnold, this expedition is about more than just climbing. It is an opportunity to witness firsthand the impact of climate change on a wilderness that is vitally important to the planet’s future. With renowned adventurer Aldo Kane, a glaciologist, and an epic team of climbers, the group uses cutting-edge technology to study one of the most dangerous and least understood ice caps in the world.

Now climbing icy cliffs? That was in Horizon Zero Dawn.
