Have you ever wondered what Studio Ghibli and Lucasfilm could do if they teamed up? Well, you can keep wondering, because they’re not telling us. They’re only hinting at it in the most mysterious way possible. Basically: as a short teaser trailer that raises far more questions than it answers.

Studio Ghibli x Lucasfilm Inbound?!

Yes, this is really it. There’s nothing more.

The official Twitter account of Studio Ghibli just posted this Tweet containing a video that apparently teases at a collaboration between the anime film studio and Lucasfilm, of all companies. Unfortunately, the video is merely a teaser that lasts a mere 15 seconds in length. While it is possible to fit relevant details into a video of that length, that’s not what’s happening here.

Instead, what we get is the Lucasfilm logo flashing in and out, and then the Studio Ghibli logo comes and goes just as quickly. Seriously, that’s it. No release window, or even just the barest hint of details in the slightest. It’s literally just 15 seconds of logo flashing, and nothing more. Hopefully, either one or both companies gives us more details about this apparent collaboration later. Tune back into THS at a later time to find out when we hopefully do. In the meantime though, all we can do is play the speculation game.

Star Wars by Studio Ghibli: Speculation

"Star Wars: Visions" key art.
Just imagine this, but if it was Studio Ghibli all the time.

I know Lucasfilm has a few non-Star Wars franchises going for it like Indiana Jones and Willow, but really, when we think of the company, we primarily think of Star Wars. Thus, it’s only natural to think of a Star Wars anime from Studio Ghibli when we think of a collaboration between the 2 companies. It could be something in the vein of Star Wars: Visions, where the studio that brought us Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro produces an anime short as part of an anime anthology. Heck, it could even be part of that upcoming volume 2 of Star Wars: Visions that Disney has been hinting at. Certainly, it seems like the most likely option here.

However, there is the slim possibility that we might just get an entire feature-length Star Wars anime film from Studio Ghibli. Like one of their usual anime films, but you know, Star Wars. Unfortunately, this seems unlikely due to the time and expense of such a project. If that is the case, we’ll have to wait at least a couple years for this project to bear fruit. Given that this is Studio Ghibli though, it might be worth the wait if this is indeed the case. This is just pure speculation for now though, Take it with a grain of salt until we hear any official word about this.
