System Shock was one of the best games of the 1990’s, being one of the few sci-fi horror games in existence. Now it seems, it’s finally going to get to watch the TV series version, but from a very unusual source.

System Shock series key art.
SHODAN seems a bit shinier than I remember her.

Deadline reported that Binge, a new Australian video streaming service, has added System Shock to its slate of original content. As the name suggests, this will be the live-action adaptation of the sci-fi horror game of the same name. You know, the one with the evil female AI turning everyone into cyborgs? Yeah, that one.

“I’ve always believed that a live action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror. We’re very excited to see the talented team at Binge bring System Shock to life in horrifyingly real and new ways.”

Stephen Kick, Nightdive Studios director

As for when we’ll get to see SHODAN on TV, that will apparently take place next year in 2022. We don’t have any info on exactly when in 2022 we will see the show though. We can guess that the show might premiere soon after the release of the System Shock remake in Q4 2021 though. Since Binge is producing the show in cooperation with Nightdive Studios, after all. Well, time will tell.

System Shock: Details

Still less freaky than necromorphs, but not by much.

Some of you might be wondering what System Shock is. Well, it was originally a sci-fi horror action-adventure game way back in 1994. You play as an unnamed hacker on board a space station named Citadel Station, where the station’s AI named SHODAN has commandeered the station, killed virtually everyone on board, and turned them into cyborg warriors. Basically: Skynet without nukes, and more personal touch. A TV series about this game would definitely be a sci-fi horror series to pay attention to. Mostly because of how few of them there are.

SHODAN is responsible for many things, but she wasn’t the one who made the space station interior look like the inside of a computer.

Conclusion

System Shock is finally getting a live-action TV adaptation. Sure, it’s from a relatively unknown streaming service called Binge, but it’s better than nothing. They’re even working in cooperation with Nightdive Studios, who are making the remake, to produce this sci-fi horror live-action series. We’ll get to see said live-action adaptation sometime next year in 2022. Exactly when is anyone’s guess. We’ll have to wait for word from Binge or Nightdive later on that.
