Funimation has just announced that they have just signed an agreement with Crunchyroll to acquire it.

Funimation made this announcement both on Twitter and on their official website. With the merger of both anime streaming platforms, Sony Pictures now owns a very large share of the anime streaming world. CEO of Funimation Global Group, Colin Decker, has this to say about the merger:

Additional sources claim that Funimation will be paying upwards of $1.175 billion USD for the merger to happen. This has not been confirmed yet by the official statement from Funimation though. Stay tuned for more as this story develops.
