The Origin Of The Orton and Kingston Feud

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston has had an on-again off-again feud with Randy Orton for nearly a decade and the pair will meet at SummerSlam.

This is far from the first time the pair has met in a WWE ring.  The pair have a combined 28 years in WWE with Orton having 17 and Kingston with 11.  However, the pair have largely been separated throughout their careers.

The first big event which started their rivalry was in 2009 during a match between Orton and John Cena.  During the match Orton’s allies came to the ring to interfere, but Kofi came to Cena’s rescue and led to Orton’s defeat.  Orton came after Kingston for the loss and led to Orton and Kingston captaining Survivor Series teams which team Kingston won.  This led into a singles match at TLC which Orton won.

Kingston Lingered In Lower Card Matches

A feud with Orton is an almost guarantee to launch anyone into the main event picture, but Kingston lingered lower on the event cards.  Orton claims he held Kingston down to make sure he didn’t get the opportunities at the higher levels. However, over the past year Kingston has climbed his way to the top of the Smackdown Live roster and resulted in the WWE Championship.  Kofi became the WWE Champion by defeating Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania in April.

Kingston: Look At Who Is At The

Kingston has the entire WWE Universe behind him and has become very popular over the last few years with his New Day faction.  However, Orton is named the viper for a reason. He is the snake in the grass and always strikes when it is least expected. Can he topple the beloved Kingston at a moment’s notice with an RKO.

However, Kofi has been on a roll coming out victorious over top-level competitors like Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and Daniel Bryan.  We also can’t forget some of these victories came during his grueling gauntlet matches.

Orton was able to get the victory over Kingston on this week’s Smackdown Live in a 6-man tag match, but that gives Kingston something more to prove and announced Orton as his SummerSlam challenger.

Two Wrestlers Who Are Always Dangerous

Kingston is not the same wrestler he was at the start of this feud and has become a formidable opponent, but Orton is always dangerous and will go to any lengths to get a victory and his hands on the WWE Championship once more.

The WWE Universe will see if the WWE Champion can defeat another high level wrestler or if Orton can do what he does best and hit an RKO out of nowhere.  SummerSlam will take place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Sunday August 11.
