When Cyberpunk: Edgerunners made its debut back on September 13, 2022; it was a major hit. Critics and audiences alike gave this anime from Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Promare) overwhelmingly positive reviews, with the faithfulness of this anime to the original tabletop board game by Mike Pondsmith being one of the big things about it. In fact, this one anime series breathed life back into the Cyberpunk 2077 video game after CD Projekt Red made such a hash of its release back in December 10, 2020. So much so that you can understand why for the anime‘s first anniversary, it’s getting something special. And that something special is a special illustration.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 1-Year Anniversary Special Illustration: Details

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 1-Year Anniversary Special Illustration.
What better than a crossover is a crossover with…yourself?!

The official Twitter account for Cyberpunk 2077 just posted a Tweet revealing that special illustration above for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Cyberpunk 2077 as a whole. The illustration shows Lucyna “Lucy Kushinada on the left, but you might be wondering who’s on the right. Well, that red-headed woman would be Songbird. She’s a brand new character from the upcoming DLC for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Considering that said DLC will soon launch, it’s no wonder why she’s there.

As for who the artist for this special illustration is? That would be Yoh Yoshinari of Studio Trigger. In fact, he was the character designer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. So what you’re seeing with Songbird is what she’d look like if she was in the anime. It really makes me long for a season 2, but alas, that’s very unlikely. CD Projekt Red themselves have shot down the idea, insisting that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a standalone work. Oh well, it was a nice thought. At least we’ll still have that Phantom Liberty DLC to look forward to.

Speaking of which, the Phantom Liberty DLC will launch on September 26, 2023. If you wish to, then you can preorder that DLC right now on its official website for PC (via Steam, Epic Games, or GOG.com), PS5, or Xbox Series S/X. That is if you own the Cyberpunk 2077 base video game.
