Disney has unveiled a new featurette for their new film, Young Woman and the Sea. The film depicts the true story of Trudy Ederle. Ederle is the pioneering woman who achieved the historic feat of swimming across the English Channel.

So, in the film, Daisy Ridley (Marsh King’s Daughter) portrays the talented swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. With the unwavering encouragement of her elder sister as well as dedicated coaches, she defied challenges and societal barriers to excel in the Olympic swimming arena. Then, her remarkable journey culminated in a monumental accomplishment – conquering the daunting 21-mile swim from France to England.

Young Woman and the Sea also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, Jeanette Hain, Sian Clifford, as well as Glenn Fleshler.

The film is based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. Joachim Rønning is directing and the film is written by Jeff Nathanson. Producing are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, as well as Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.

Young Woman and the Sea is coming to theaters nationwide in a special engagement on May 31, 2024.
