Hands up: how many of you have ever heard of Biker Mice from Mars? Well, I’m keeping my hands down, because this is literally the first time I’ve heard of it myself. Those of you readers who grew up in the ’90s might find that title familiar, because this was an animated series from that time period. Specifically: September 19, 1993 is when it first premiered. Officially, this series is supposed to be a superhero show. However, it appears to have the trappings of a science fiction series…all featuring anthropomorphic biker rats as the stars of the show. Yeah, this is definitely a ’90s show.

Amazingly, Oni Press has not forgotten that Biker Mice from Mars existed. How else do you explain why this blast to the ’90s past is now getting a brand new comic book series from them?

There’s something so weirdly ’90s about this cover art.

Oni Press is proud to announce their upcoming new comic Biker Mice from Mars. Featuring Melissa Flores (Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Spider-Gwen: Smash) as the writer, and Eisner Award–nominated artist Frances Portela (Green Lantern) as the artist: this new comic is apparently a comic book adaptation of the ’90s era cartoon. Not spin-off or a sequel. It appears to be a straight-up adaptation. Judging by the more…edgy artwork of the covers, it’s probably meant to be a serious adaptation. Don’t believe me? Then check out the official synopsis from Oni Press below, and see for yourself:

Best friends Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie, just three anthropomorphic, motorcycle-riding mice who called Mars home . . . and were always bad to the bone. But when the ruthless Plutarkians stage a mass invasion to strip their planet of its precious resources, their antiauthoritarian streak is going to turn into a full-blown insurgency. Only the Biker Mice from Mars can prevent the mass destruction of Earth’s nearest planetary neighbor . . . and the freedom of our entire solar system may just hang in the balance.

Biker Mice from Mars #1 will go on sale on July 17, 2024 for a retail price of $4.99. You can purchase it on that date from your local comic book shop. Or, you can also do so directly from Oni Press on that date too.
