Moana made a big splash when it dove into theaters in the US nationwide on November 23, 2016; and as you can imagine, much of it was due to the fine voice acting of Auli’i Cravalho. This Hawaiian actress provided the voice of the titular star of the Disney show, which certainly helped propel her to fame. Fortunately, it looks like she’ll be back to add her amazing voice to the starring role once more.

Moana 2: Auli’i Cravalho Details

Deadline has just reported that Auli’i Cravalho (Moana, Rise, All Together Now) will be returning to reprise her role as the titular main character in Moana 2. As you can imagine, Cravalho is quite pleased with this outcome. In fact, she has quite a few words to say on the subject, which you can read below:

When I was cast as Moana at 14, it wonderfully changed my life and started my career. In this live-action retelling, I will not be reprising the role. I believe it is absolutely vital the casting accurately represents the characters and stories we want to tell.

So, as an executive producer on the film, I cannot wait to help find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit and emotional strength. I’m truly honored to pass this baton to the next young woman of Pacific Island descent, to honor our incredible Pacific peoples cultures and communities that help inspire her story. And I look forward to all the beautiful Pacific representations to come. Mahalo.

What this confirmation also means is that both the original voices of the starring roles will return for this sequel. Yes, you read that right. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (The Mummy Returns, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Fast & Furious) will also return to costar along with Cravalho in the other starring role. As a reminder: that would be the loud and boisterous Maui. Given who Johnson is and who he plays, we can expect this gargantuan fishhook-wielding demigod to be just as loud and boisterous.

Tune back into THS later to find out more Moana 2 news when we hear about them. What, you haven’t watched the first film yet? Well, then you can do so on Disney+.
