Suzume is set to be one of the most widely anticipated anime films in history. It’s no surprise really, with Makoto Shinkai’s excellent directing in his previous anime films like Your Name and Weathering with You. It’s also no surprise that with the anime film soon about to make its debut, that we’re getting a new official trailer for it. This time, it even features English subtitles. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out that trailer for yourself below?

The Sparrow Calls in English Subtitles Now

It’s so hard to close magical doors, isn’t it?

Crunchyroll is proud to release a new official trailer for Suzume (Suzume no Tojimari in the original Japanese) on YouTube. The new trailer mostly just shows scenes we’ve seen before in the previous trailers. However, the big difference is that we now get English subtitles for them. That, combined with the bits of new footage included in this new trailer, gives us a clearer picture as to what this anime film is about. Although, really, the whole “magical doors that need to be closed” is something that’s pretty obvious from previous trailers.

So when can we finally watch Suzume in English subtitles for ourselves? Well, this new anime film masterpiece from Makoto Shinkai will debut globally in April 2023. For the NA region in particular, the exact date is Friday, April 14, 2023. Unfortunately, tickets are not available yet as of this writing. That’s something we’ll have to wait for at a later date. Tune back in to THS later to find out when those tickets are available when we do.

In the meantime, perhaps you might want an idea of what Suzume will be about? Well, Crunchyroll has a rather lengthy official synopsis for us about this anime film. You can check it out below:

On the other side of the door, was time in its entirety—

“Suzume no Tojimari” is a coming-of-age story for the 17-year-old protagonist, Suzume, set in various disaster-stricken locations across Japan, where she must close the doors causing devastation.

Suzume’s journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu (located in southwestern Japan) when she encounters a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob… Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster.

—The stars, then sunset, and the morning sky.

Within that realm, it was as though all time had melted together in the sky…

Never-before-seen scenery, encounters and farewells… A myriad of challenges await her on her journey. Despite all the obstacles in her way, Suzume’s adventure shines a ray of hope upon our own struggles against the toughest roads of anxiety and constraints that make up everyday life. This story of closing doors that connect our past to the present and future will leave a lasting impression upon all of our hearts.

Drawn in by these mysterious doors, Suzume’s journey is about to begin.
