Well, it appears that the upcoming third season of Superman & Lois has just snagged Michael Cudlitz to play Superman’s archenemy: Lex Luthor. Who is Cudlitz, you might ask? Well, let’s find out.

Superman & Lois & Luthor?!

I guess Lex Luthor has upgraded to kidnapping as part of his modus operandi. Typical supervillain.

We broke the news that Lex Luthor was coming to Superman and Lois in December. Now, Entertainment Weekly (EW) has just come out with an exclusive report saying that The CW’s upcoming Superman & Lois season 3 has just cast Michael Cudlitz (Band of Brothers, Southland, The Walking Dead) as Lex Luthor. The CW has even released an official character description of Lex Luthor to go along with this casting news. Which hopefully, gives us a better insight into his character.

Apparently, Lex Luthor in Superman & Lois season 3 will still be a billionaire with access to oodles of wealth (as well as his own LexCorp company) to take on Superman. Just like in the comics, Luthor has a fairly positive public image to show to said public. Also just like in the comics though, Luthor has a dark side to him. In this case, Luthor is an underworld figure with his own criminal empire, and is also a “brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with”.

By the time of his season 3 debut though, Lex Luthor has only just emerged back into the public eye after an unspecified but lengthy period of being a recluse. All apparently to get revenge on Superman and Lois. What did they do to him to work him up into such a frothing rage? Well, the description doesn’t say, unfortunately. It seems we’ll have to find out when Superman & Lois season 3 premieres on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at 8 PM (ET/PT) on The CW. In the meantime though, let’s take a look at the guy who will be playing Luthor: Michael Cudlitz.

Michael Cudlitz: Details

Michael Cudlitz is an American actor born in December 29, 1964. Unlike some actors/actresses, he didn’t start in stage plays. Instead, he first starred in the 1989 short film Crystal Ball. It’s so little-known that there’s not even a Wikipedia entry for it.

It wouldn’t be until 2001 though when Michael Cudlitz lands his first big role, and it’s a very big role indeed. He played Sgt. Denver “Bull” Randleman in the WWII drama miniseries Band of Brothers. He even landed the role while still enrolled at the California Institute of the Arts to boot.

Still one of the best WWII series ever made.

Michael Cudlitz’s next big role ended up being in the crime drama Southland in 2009. There, he actually starred in it as Officer John Cooper of LAPD. The series got a generally favorable reception from critics, further propelling Cudlitz to fame.

Sorry about the low quality. This is the best one I could find.

Michael Cudlitz’s last big role was back in 2014, when he appeared in AMC’s The Walking Dead. Fans of that post-apocalyptic zombie horror drama series might remember him as Sergeant Abraham Ford. It seems he got a lot of attention from fans for his rather…unique performance there, earning him a lot of praise. It bodes well for Cudlitz’s being cast as Lex Luthor in Superman & Lois season 3.

The season when Ford officially becomes part of the main cast.
