Longtime composer turned Director Michael Giacchino is taking on the monsters of Them! in his directorial debut at Warner Bros. According to Deadline, he’s rebooting the 1954 B-movie monster sci-fi film of the same name. Giacchino directed the absolutely excellent Werewolf By Night for Marvel Studios last year, but that wasn’t quite a feature-length film. He’s currently meeting with writers hoping to get the production going soon.

The original film saw a huge nest of irradiated ants attack humanity after they’re discovered in the New Mexico desert. New nests pop up around the nation and the film culminates with a battle in the spillways of Los Angeles. He spoke to Deadline about the new film.

There’s always a movie in your mind that never leaves your head, for me, that’s Them! It wasn’t until much later in life until I learned what it was about, the nuclear age. What I love about Them! is exactly what it’s called: Them!, it’s about the other, the unknown which one refuses or can’t understand. The current version of Them! is about immigration, and to tell a story about the subject through a lens of this insane science fiction monster movie,

Giacchino composed the scores for plenty of blockbuster films like The Batman, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Trek, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and plenty more among a long list of credits.

We’ll have to see how Them! develops as we get more news, but this is definitely exciting. If it’s anything like Werewolf By Night, we’re in for a treat!
