Like it did at the 2022 box office, Top Gun: Maverick is decimating viewership records for Paramount+. The company announced that Maverick is its most-watched movie globally in its opening weekend.

Arriving just in time for the Holidays, Top Gun: Maverick debuted on Paramount+ on December 22nd, and from the 22nd to the 25th it broke records domestically and worldwide. It passed the previous record holder Sonic The Hedgehog 2 by 60%. It also pushed viewership of the original Top Gun by nearly 400% and the Tom Cruise-led Mission Impossible franchise by 140%.

Paramount+ has a considerable library of films that includes new titles like The Lost City and the horror hit of 2022, Smile. Here’s what President and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Chief Content Officer, Movies and Kids & Family, Paramount+, Brian Robbins had to say about the huge success.

The runaway success of this film across theatrical, digital and now in streaming is an undeniable proof point demonstrating the power of Paramount’s multi-platform release strategy. Across all our 2022 titles, and now with ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ our studio has unlocked the value of variable windowing that streaming provides to augment a film’s overall success.

Top Gun: Maverick was Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing domestic release ever. It was directed by Joseph Kosinski and starred Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer, and Glen Powell.
