If Warner Bros. Discovery now has a 10-year plan for DC, then it needs someone to lead the way. According to a THR report, WB Discovery has found that person. Dan Lin has reportedly been tapped to become the company’s DC chief. Lin has a pretty strong track record with Warner Bros. He was the executive producer on The Lego Movie, Godzilla: King of Monsters, and both IT films. In the role, he would report directly to WB CEO David Zaslav.

LIN WOULD STEP INTO DC FILMS TURMOIL

To say that Lin would be joining DC Films in a time of turmoil would be an understatement. If the reports are true and the deal goes through, Lin would certainly have his work cut out for him. The recent cancellation of Batgirl has left fans and some within DC Films in a state of confusion. Current head of DC Films, Walter Hamada, reportedly was on the verge of quitting over the cancellation. However, they have agreed to continue on in the role through October 21 and the release of Black Adam.

Also, if the fan response to Batgirl wasn’t enough for Lin, then there is also the ongoing drama surrounding The Flash and its star, Ezra Miller. At this time, that film is still on track for a 2023 release date, but currently, nothing seems certain within DC FIlms or WB Discovery, CEO David Zaslav has not been shy about canceling projects, regardless of their status, Including recently axing the upcoming J.J. Abrams and Bruce Timm Batman: Caped Crusader Series.

Dan Lin

Zaslav has not been shy about his desire to mimic what Disney has achieved with Marvel Studios. Using their multi-year plans as a template for what DC Films hopes to achieve. A key component of Marvel Studios’ success is of course thanks to Kevin Feige.

“We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business where we’re going to focus, where there will be a team with a ten-year plan focusing just on DC,” Zaslav said. “It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together very effectively with Kevin Feige at Disney.”

WB Discovery appears to be hoping Dan Lin can replicate that same success with DC Films. Fans will certainly be pulling for Lin if he should step into the role as the current state of DC Films is less than confidence-inspiring. Though with the potential addition of Lin and the recent deal with The Batman director, Matt Reeves, perhaps WB Discovery is turning a corner.
