Looks like Kevin Feige wasn’t wrong when he said that The Russo Brothers weren’t directing the next two Avengers films. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has been tapped to direct the next Avengers film, The Kang Dynasty. The Hollywood Reporter had the exclusive report.

Cretton is no stranger to Marvel and the MCU, he directed Shang-Chi and also has a deal in place for other projects with the company. As far as other details about The Kang Dynasty, it was only just announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, so there’s nothing about a writer. The film has a release date of May 2nd, 2025. The next Avengers film, Secret Wars, has a release date of November 7th, 2025.

This upcoming phase of the MCU features Kang The Conqueror as the big bad villain. He’s going to debut in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17th, 2023. That film sees the beginning of Phase 5. Jonathan Majors is reprising his role as Kang in the film and most likely in The Kang Dynasty as well. Directing an Avengers movie is a huge deal, so congrats to Destin Daniel Cretton on getting the gig.

It remains to be seen who’ll direct the other Avengers film, Secret Wars, but we have plenty of time to figure that out.
