AMC+’s Interview with the Vampire series is one of the most highly anticipated shows of 2022. The recent AMC+ sizzle reel featured a couple of quick moments of the upcoming series and sent the interwebs into a tizzy!

With their incredible casting choices, along with the iconic storyline from Anne Rice, this new adaptation seems to stay more faithful to the source material while also creating something all its own.

WHAT IS INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE?

Interview with the Vampire is the first book in the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. The story follows Louis de Pointe du Lac and Lestat de Lioncourt, two vampires who both love and hate each other. Think of them as a romantically wrought relationship. The worst partner you ever had that you couldn’t leave. During their love/hate (after) life-partnership, Louis turns to a young girl named Claudia as a surrogate child for the pair, who also grows to hate Lestat. Eventually, Louis and Claudia flee to Paris, where their (after) lives continue down a dark path.

In the iconic 1994 film, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise portray Louis and Lestat, respectively. Oscar Nominee Kirsten Dunst playing Claudia. And Christian Slater plays Daniel Malloy, the interviewer.

For the AMC+ series, we already know that Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) is playing Louis. Sam Reid (The Newsreader) takes on Lestat, and Claudia is being played by Bailey Bass (Avatar). However, we at THS have learned of a few more BRAND NEW characters coming to the series to continue to shake things up.

MORE NEW CHARACTERS COMING TO AMC+ INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE

Antoinette Brown, while I don’t remember her from the books, I love who her character is supposed to be and what she means for our favorite Vamps. Antoinette is a talented blues singer who performs at Louis nightclub/bordello. Her relationship with Lestat disrupts their domestic tranquility. They are looking for an actress of any ethnicity in her early 30s who can sing. Guest Star.

While the book, minus the actual interview and a couple of snippets, stays in the 19th century, with this new character, we are heading into the 20th. Jonah Macon, who is also not from the books, is a handsome Army private who’s about to ship out for WWI. Jonah is also a childhood friend of Louis, whom he also had a brief romance with! He is back in town, and he and Louis once again hook up for a torrid affair. They are looking for a black actor to play late 20s to early 30s to Guest Star. Louis and Lestat are very LGBTQ+ forward whether the movie wanted to portray them that way or not. Check the source material.

Another all-new character for the series is Samesh Kulkarn. He is a recurring character who is a hotshot posing as a cool customer and is actually Louis’ personal doctor. Samesh is highly educated with a droll sense of humor and deals with the rich and powerful. Casting is looking for a Middle Eastern/North African/Asian/Anglo-Indian man in his Mid-30s-Mid-50s.

OFFICIAL INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE SYNOPSIS

A reinvention of Anne Rice’s novel of the same name from her collection ‘The Vampire Chronicles’. This gloriously gruesome and sexy gothic horror series centers on vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac’s telling of his 200-year-long life story alongside immortal vampire companion Lestat de Lioncourt to investigative journalist Daniel Molloy whom he met some fifty years previously. This will be an ongoing eight-episode series for AMC, flitting between present-day Brooklyn and New Orleans in the early 1900s with themes of vengeance, greed, opulence, and depravity.

While there’s no official release date yet, we do know it’s coming in 2022. Stay tuned to THS for more Interview with the Vampire series updates!
