With the success of Spiderman: No Way Home, it seems Sony is trying to stay in the Marvel Movie game! Earlier today, news broke that Dakota Johnson is playing Madame Web in an upcoming Spider-Man Universe film. However, there’s one issue, Madame Web is an old woman.

BUT WHO IS MADAME WEB?

Cassandra Web aka Madame Web is a Marvel Comics character who made her first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #210. Madame Web is a clairvoyant, and precognitive mutant whose first encounter with Spider-Man was to help find a kidnap victim. Usually depicted as a supporting character, Cassandra is an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis. Which is a long-term neuromuscular disease that leads to varying degrees of skeletal muscle weakness. She is also connected to a life support system that resembles a spider web. An elderly woman and Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey)? That doesn’t really make sense.

There’s another option, JESSICA CARPENTER AKA SPIDER-WOMAN

Given the age of the character, the casting of Dakota Johnson seems to be an odd choice. However, before Cassandra is killed, she passe her powers onto Julia Carpenter. Julia then becomes the next Madame Webb.

Does Julia Carpenter sound familiar? That’s because she is also known as the second Spider-Woman! Jessica is also portrayed as Madame Web in the Ultimate Spider-Man Animated Series. So, if you ask me, Sony seems to be setting up the first-ever Spider-Woman movie under the guise of Madame Webb.

S.J. Clarkson, who directed Jessica Jones and Defenders is on board to direct the film. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the team behind the upcoming Morbius have penned the screenplay.
