You know how Blizzard Entertainment has made some games with some fantastically large maps like, say, World of Warcraft and Diablo? Well, now it seems that they’re taking the next logical step by making a survival fantasy game based on similar principles. Let’s hope it will be a good one.

Maybe they can even get a few people to forget about their gender discrimination scandal. Maybe.

Blizzard Entertainment has just recently announced that they are making a brand new survival fantasy game on their official website. This survival fantasy game is apparently going to be for PCs, as well as consoles. Hopefully, it will also include PlayStation, but unlikely due to Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Blizzard). That’s about it as far as we have for concrete details.

Here’s what the official website says:

Blizzard is embarking on our next quest. We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.”

There is no release date, let alone a title for this new video game. Which, to be fair, is entirely understandable given that they literally just announced this. Heck, the announcement comes with a job advertisement for art, design, and engineering for this game. That’s how new it is! So, let’s cut Blizzard a bit of slack on this particular issue. Anything else is fair game though, like their gender discrimination scandal, but that’s a topic for another article.

The Legend of Blizzard: Breath of the Wild?

Laputa? Is that you? How did you get here all the way from Castle in the Sky?

Really, the most we can do for now is speculate about this untitled Blizzard survival fantasy game. While they don’t actually specify that this will be a fantasy game, it’s pretty obvious that it is so from the sole piece of artwork they’ve released. Said artwork depicts a young man and young woman journeying from their modern mundane city (via a just-as-modern and mundane bicycle). And finding an entrance to a fantasy world nearby. For me, the floating castle gives away the fantasy bit, and should be a treat for Studio Ghibli fans.

However, the survival aspect isn’t really apparent in the artwork. All it looks like is your typical isekai-like fantasy adventure straight out of an anime waiting to happen. Maybe Blizzard will have more for us later, but for now, that’s it.

Tune in later to THS for more news about this untitled survival fantasy game as this story develops.
