Ever wanted to watch the original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series? Even the very violent and very strange anime films? Well, GKIDS is here to help you out with that, at least digitally. You’re going to have to wait for the Blu-ray version a bit later.
GKIDS is proud to announce that they have made the entire original Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series available for digital download today. Note that this list doesn’t just include the original anime series. It also includes the 2 anime films made for it: Evangelion: Death (True)2 and The End of Evangelion. You can download all of them from all major digital transactional platforms like Apple TV and Amazon.
Neon Genesis Evangelion: But What About The Blu-ray?
Ah, but you wish to learn more about the actual physical versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion now, right? Well, apparently, GKIDS wants to release the Blu-ray versions fairly soon. For example, the Standard Edition above is currently available for preorder, but will launch on November 9, 2021. The Standard Edition contains all of the episodes and anime films on 5 discs, with over 5 hours of bonus features crammed in.
The Neon Genesis Evangelion Blu-ray Collector’s Edition above contains not only the stuff in the Standard Edition, but also extras like a 40-page book, art cards, and over 7 hours of bonus features. This edition will launch on December 7, 2021. You can preorder it from Shout! Factory or Rightstuf.
For those of you who want everything though, there is this Neon Genesis Evangelion Blu-ray Ultimate Edition. This edition contains not only the stuff in the previous editions, but even more bonuses like a 156-page book, artboards, a Sachiel resin paperweight, and even a reproduction NERV ID card with a lanyard attached. Unfortunately, GKIDS only produced 5,000 copies of this edition for North America. Even more, unfortunately, as of this writing, they’re all sold out in North America. Check back in later to see if GKIDS makes more of this edition.
