Get Over Here!!! If you are a fan of the Mortal Kombat franchise this has been somewhat a good year for some of us. Not only did we get a new Mortal Kombat live-action film this year, but we also just got the new animated Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms released from Warner Bros. as well. Well, thanks to Warner Bros. I received a copy of this animated film to review and it did not disappoint.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms

Taking place after Scorpion’s Revenge, Mortal Kombet Legends: Battle of the Realms is a movie that tells two stories. Of course one is another Mortal Kombat tournament and the other is Shinnok’s plan to destroy the realms. First, we focus on the heroes of Earthrealm that include Raiden, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Jax, Johnny Cage, and a few others I’ll leave for a surprise for you. As they are fighting off a pretty intense invasion from Outword Shao Khan and Raiden decide to strike a deal that will give them a final Mortal Kombat tournament. I won’t go into too much more on this plot, but once allowed by the Elder Gods the battles begin and the blood starts flying. Also, be ready for a major upset you might not expect.

Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms

While all this is going on another storyline is brewing. Shinnok who wants to destroy the realms needs to unlock a vault containing the Kamidogu, the last remnant of the One Being. Scorpion, who is the “key” to opening this vault tries to run but is captured and the vault is opened. Once Scorpion is no longer needed he is attracted but with the help of Sub Zero. Shinnok does get the Kamindogu and with the remnants combined, he takes the power of the One Being. From here both storylines merge together and the action continues.

My Thoughts On Battle of the Realms

One of the best things about this whole movie was the action. The creative team did a great job using the games as inspiration. What I mean is if you are a fan of the blood, guts, and gore of the games there is plenty of that in this movie. Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms was pretty much non-stop action. The animation and sounds also help make this movie a gory one for the gas. From the shaping of the bones, the heads rolling, and the blood flying the animation and the sounds brought it all to life and didn’t hold back any details. If this action didn’t make you happy as a Mortal Kombat fan nothing will.

Battle of the Realms

While all of the above was amazing I did have a few issues with Battle of the Realms. My big thing is there was almost too much going on. While it was nest getting both stories, they could have easily been two separate films. With the stories going back and forth it just felt like it was rushed. Also because of this, we didn’t get to focus on a lot of the characters. It was mainly a Liu Kang and Scorpion story with their supporting cast.

Conclusion

If you are a Mortal Kombat fan then Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms is definitely a must-watch. Personally, I enjoyed this more than the live-action movie, but I’m sure some of you will say I’m crazy about that. The non-stop action and the fight scenes and the fighters’ special moves overall just make this move fun to watch.
