Apparently, The CW is actually explaining why they’re reworking that Powerpuff pilot episode. Even better, this bit of news comes straight from the top.

According to The CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz, told via Deadline on May 25, 2021; the original pilot for Powerpuff did not meet their standards. It seems that they considered the original pilot a “miss”. Apparently, although they “believe in the cast completely” and “believe in Diablo and Heather, the writers”, ultimately “the pilot didn’t work”. Pedowitz explained that this is why they do pilots. Sometimes pilots just miss their mark.

Mark Pedowitz does go into a bit about specifically why the original pilot for Powerpuff missed. The CW felt that they needed to do justice to it because of how popular the original The Powerpuff Girls was/is. Unfortunately, the original pilot didn’t do that. Pedowitz noted that the tone of the original pilot “might’ve felt a little too campy”. However, that was all he had to say on the subject. He doesn’t go any further into the specifics. I guess “campy” is all we have to go on.

Powerpuff: Sex and the City?

Adult Powerpuff Girls?
Apparently what this live action reboot is. Your mileage may vary.

Turns out though, there is actually an even bigger reason why The CW scrapped the original Powerpuff pilot. Just a short while ago, a supposed leak of some of the show’s script happened on Twitter. Said script shows the girls talking about their sex lives, walking in on each other having sex with random people, and in general talking about some extremely adult stuff, even if it didn’t exactly fit with their original personalities. It reads more like a script from some adult comedy show than anything related to The Powerpuff Girls.

When asked about this leaked script from Powerpuff, Mark Pedowitz replied that he could verify if the script was real because he basically hadn’t seen them. So yeah, it’s up to you to choose to believe they’re real or not. If they are real though, this would be a slightly disturbing direction for the live action show to take. I mean, I don’t have a problem with an adult Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup having sex lives and doing adult things because they’re, you know, adults in this remake. I just have a problem with them sounding like they’re in an adult comedy show or like they’re in a porn film. If you’re going to have them discuss sex, at least go the Sex and the City route and not…this. Your mileage may vary on this though.

Conclusion

The CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz has come out and kinda explained why they scrapped the original pilot for the live action Powerpuff series. Apparently, they felt it was too “campy”, and needed a rework. This explanation may or may not be related to the supposed leaked script from the live action show a short while ago, depicting some very adult Powerpuff Girls. Maybe too adult. Hopefully, the new pilot will be more faithful to the original The Powerpuff Girls.
