Another big star just joined the Indiana Jones franchise. Mads Mikkelsen will co-star in the upcoming fifth film.

No word yet on who Mikkelsen will play in the movie. Plot and character details for Indiana Jones 5 are being kept under wraps.

The casting news comes after Phoebe Waller-Bridge nabbed the role of the movie’s female lead last week. And of course, Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Indy himself.

James Mangold will take over the directing reins from Steven Spielberg, though Spielberg will still be involved in the project as a producer. John Williams, composer of the iconic Indiana Jones theme song, will also return to score the movie.

Indiana Jones 5 hopes to begin production this summer. The studio plans to release the movie in July 2022.

Mikkelsen also joined another major franchise recently. Warner Bros. cast him as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts films, replacing Johnny Depp.

So, what do you think about Mikkelsen joining Indiana Jones? Want to speculate wildly about his role? (I mean…they’re definitely making him the villain, right?) Drop your predictions in the comments below.
