Gearbox Software is working on a Duke Nukem film, alongside Paramount Pictures, and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. And Variety has now learned that the producer of the Assassin’s Creed movie, Jean-Julien Baronnet, has reportedly been tapped to produce this film.

John Cena was rumored to be playing Duke Nukem earlier this year. But, Paramount is no longer involved with the film. Sean Haran, who is Gearbox’s vice president of business development, and Baronnet, who is from Marla Studios, meet with writers in recent weeks, and are working with writers to work on a package for a potential Duke Nukem film. They are going to assert Nukem, which is including his catchphrases, such as “piece of cake,” “see you hell” and “so help me Duke.”

Haran has said that, “He’s a parody of 1980s action heroes and he’s like Deadpool in terms of being able to break the fourth wall. We see a lot of humor in his confronting the values of today while trying to save the world.”

Baronnet agrees with Haran, adding that, “Duke is exactly the kind of very blunt character that we need in the world today.”

This film seems like it has the potential to do well, but it needs a movie studio to help make it.
