CinemaCon 2024 is coming to an end. However, after hearing from studios such as WB, Lionsgate, and Universal earlier in the week, the massive trade show celebrating the moviegoing experience still has one more jam-packed day of presentations, starting with Paramount Pictures. If you’re not in Las Vegas to experience all the pomp and circumstance this year, the team from That Hashtag Show is on the ground in Sin City to bring you the latest news from the convention.

Coming Attractions

Following a reel of classic Paramount films, a legion of gladiators marched into The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to kick off the presentation. John Krasinski then appeared onscreen to showcase If and A Quiet Place: Day One. Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins took the stage next to proclaim that Krasinski’s If co-star Ryan Reynolds and his production company Maximum Effort has extended their deal with the studio.

Robbins continued by sharing a number of projects in the pipeline over the next few years including a new Star Trek movie, a crossover between G.I. Joe and Transformers, The Running Man from director Edgar Wright starring Glen Powell, Ridley Scott’s Bee Gees biopic, a rated r live-action adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tale The Last Ronin, Liam Neeson in a brand new installment of The Naked Gun franchise, the return of Scary Movie in 2025, and an all-new musical from the creators of South Park and Kendrick Lamar. There’s definitely a lot to be excited for when it comes to Paramount’s upcoming slate.

Transformers ONE (September 13, 2024)

The next major offering came from the animated Transformers One. Scarlet Johansson sent in a video to hype up a preview of the Cybertron origin story. Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry, the new voices of the legendary foes Optimus Prime and Megatron in the film, emerged onstage to deliver a scene from the film in epic Dolby 3D. In this sneak peek, we saw the future leaders of the Autobots and the Decepticons before they could transform literally and figuratively into the iconic characters we know today.

Animation continued to dominate the presentation as it was announced that Rihanna would be joining the cast of the new Smurfs as Smurfette alongside James Corden, Nick Offerman, Kurt Russell, Sandra Oh, Amy Sedaris, and others. The award-winning singer will also write and produce new songs for the film as well.

And in addition to Papa Smurf and the gang returning to theaters, two other fan-favorite Nickelodeon mainstays are making a comeback thanks to Aang: The Last Airbender, the first of three new Avatar animated movies, and The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: Search For Squarepants are currently in development.

A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28, 2024)

Lupita Nyong’O and Joseph Quinn were next up with a brand new trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One. The hustle and bustle of New York City was eerily silenced in the extended preview for the highly anticipate sequel coming later this summer.

Along with Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessy, and Elba will return to reprise their roles of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. However, the voice of Shadow has yet to be revealed.

Smile 2 (October 18, 2024)

From the horror side of things, the audience was treated to a new teaser from filmmaker Parker Finn’s Smile 2. Featuring Naomi Scott and Lukas Gage, the sequel to the 2022 thriller looks even creepier than the original as a pop star passes the curse to her adoring fans.

Finally, bringing the festivities full circle, the Paramount presentation ended with five minutes of Gladiator 2. Award-winning filmmaker Ridley Scott joined the con via video from London to introduce the footage that could only be described as incredible.
