Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says that James Mangold’s Star Wars movie is still happening. Fans had been wondering what the Logan director has been up to with the previously announced project. Kennedy told Deadline that Mangold’s film is still coming. He’s had his fans full with A Complete Unknown and awards season. Mangold is working on the script and it’s still coming out.
“He got delayed a bit because of the [Bob] Dylan movie and the awards season,” Kennedy said in the interview. “You have to accommodate top talent to a certain extent.”
Kennedy’s previous announcement of Mangold’s movie had Star Wars fans intrigued. The director’s project is set during the first period of the Jedi. Long before the original trilogy and in the earliest stages of establishing the order. That’s fertile ground for a story. But, there haven’t been tangible updates as the script is still being written.
Lucasfilm Offers Update On James Mangold’s Star Wars Movie

This isn’t the only project that Mangold has had to shift a bit to accommodate the awards circuit. James Gunn revealed that the director’s Swamp Thing movie has experienced a similar thing. DC Studios’ president explained the status of multiple projects while talking to the collected press on the WB lot last week. Mangold’s movie is in a better state than The Authority right now. But, it will still be a while before fans see anything.
“Honestly, Authority’s been the one that’s been the hardest,” Gunn shared. “Both because of the shifting overall story and because of getting it right in a world with The Boys and a world with all the things that Authority influenced that came out after it.”
Gunn added, “And also having a lot of characters that we’ve fallen in love with that we’ve already filmed and have that we want to continue their stories and see them meet each other. So, I will admittedly say, it’s a little bit more on the backburner right now.”
