Tatsuya Endo finally comes back after a 1.5 month hiatus in Spy x Family Ch. 95. Fortunately, he does not disappoint with this latest chapter. Not when you have the Eden Academy basically throws a little gala for the little kids, with Anya getting to the belle of the ball.
Spy x Family Ch. 95: Details
Spy x Family Ch. 95 (officially known as Mission 95) is the latest chapter of the manga by Tatsuya Endo (Blade of the Moon Princess, TISTA) as of this writing. Alas though, this chapter has absolutely nothing in common with the previous chapter, and instead begins a new arc in the manga.
Casey Loe returns as the translator for Spy x Family Ch. 95, with Rina Mapa also returning as the letterer. Shueisha originally published this manga in Japan under their Jump Comics+ imprint in the magazine Shōnen Jump+. Viz Media is the company publishing this manga in English in the NA region.
When and Where to Read
Spy x Family Ch. 95 made its online debut on March 3, 2024. You can read this chapter entirely for free on Shonen Jump on Viz Media. Ch. 95 will remain free for two chapter releases after it. Upon the release of the third chapter after it, Ch. 95 will go into the Shonen Jump vault. Once there, you will have to pay a subscription fee to read it and all previous chapters. Admittedly, the fee is only $2.99 per month, so it’s not that big a hit to your wallet. All the same, if you’re short on cash, then you might want to hurry up and read Ch. 95 for free before you can’t anymore.
Anime Adaptation Details
As a side note: Spy x Family now has an anime adaptation that premiered on April 9, 2022. In fact, season 2 just recently premiered on October 7, 2023 and even more recently ended on December 23, 2023. There was even an anime film spinoff called Spy x Family Code: White that premiered on December 22, 2023, but only in Japan for now as of this writing. You can watch all episodes on either Crunchyroll or Hulu. Note, though, that only Crunchyroll has any of the dubs. So if you like watching the English dub for some reason, then you have to watch the anime on Crunchyroll.
Spy x Family Ch. 95: Plot Summary
Spy x Family Ch. 95 starts us off by revealing that Eden Academy is throwing a gala for all of its students. Becky accidentally reveals to Anya that this is a good chance to make Damian like Anya more, and so Anya asks Damian to go with the dance with her. Alas, Damian in his youthful tsundere-ness, rejects the dance offer.
This, when the kids arrive at the gala, Anya and Damian are both dance partner-less. After a silly contest to determine who gets to visit the Imperial Scholars’ private lounge for a day though (which Damian’s and Anya’s class loses), the situation doesn’t stay that way for long though. Damian gets a flood of tiny suitors, all looking to gain some kind of political advantage for their families by courting scion boy. Interestingly, even Anya gets a flood of her own tiny suitors though. Apparently, a lot of boys were seriously impressed by the courage Anya displayed during the bus hijacking incident, and that makes her a very popular girl among them.
Also interestingly though, Damian gets jealous of this attention. Even to the point of throwing a paper ball at one of Anya’s potential suitors. Anya isn’t interested in those other suitors though. Her only interest is in world peace, not like how those other suitors are motivated by “self-interest”. Thus, with Loid’s accidental encouragement (due to him being disguised as a “juice man”), Anya declares that she will be the one to dance with Damian. Thus, setting up the scene for the next chapter of Spy x Family.
Spy x Family Ch. 95: The Good
First off, this is the first new chapter of Spy x Family in over a month? That alone should be enough for you to realize that this is a good day. This would likely be something only fans of the manga and anime would appreciate though. If you’re not, then I do strongly recommend giving it a chance at least.
Aside from that though, Spy x Family Ch. 95 has a fascinating story. Outwardly, it appears to be entirely comedic, what with the kids effectively attending a children’s cocktail party, only drinking fruit juice instead of anything with actual alcohol in them. This is effectively a chance for the kids to play miniature grown-ups in a Recess kind of way. However, this apparent playtime is also surprisingly serious, not least of which because these are the children of influential politicians and business tycoons. They’re eager to gain an advantage for their families by courting someone powerful, even in their own childish way. That’s part of the humor of this chapter, and the fact that it’s deadly serious on some level is why it’s so funny.
Spy x Family Ch. 95: The Bad
Honestly, the only bad thing about Spy x Family Ch. 95 is how long we had to wait for it. Precisely six weeks, to be exact. It’s a pretty long hiatus by the standards of Tatsuya Endo, but really, who can blame him? The Japanese manga industry is pretty tough, and normally not accomodating of an author, regardless of any health issues they might have. It seems like Endo-sensei has quite a bit of health issues, and this time, it was fairly serious. Personally, I would wish him well, and hope that he gets as much rest as he needs. It’s what’s giving us these quality chapters of Spy x Family, and I want this to continue.
