It was a sad, sad day for Nintendo when Charles Martinet announced that he would no longer voice Mario back in August 21, 2023. Indeed, it was a sad, sad day for all of Nintendo‘s games, really. Martinet not only voiced Mario, but numerous other Nintendo characters like Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi to boot. As you can imagine, Nintendo made finding new voice actors for them a top priority. Fortunately, now we have new information on that front. Now we know who will voice Mario in future Nintendo games, at least. Who is he, you might ask? Well, have you ever heard of Mick Wingert? Yeah, it’s NOT him.
Mario’s New Voice Actor: Details
Nintendo has just confirmed that Mick Wingert (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness) will not be the new voice of Mario. Despite all the recent rumors to the contrary at IGN, mind you. Heck, even Wingert himself denied that he will be voicing Mario in future Nintendo games. Wingert’s exact line to IGN was a very specific “he could confirm that he was NOT voicing Mario“.
So who is voicing Mario in future Nintendo games? Well, that answer came on Twitter just very recently. Have you ever heard of Kevin Aghani?
On his Twitter/X account, Kevin Afghani confimed that he is the new voice of Mario. In fact, you can hear him voice our mustachioed plumber in the upcoming video game Super Mario Bros. Wonder on October 20, 2023. Not only that, but Afghani even confirms that he will be voicing Luigi in that game as well. Whether Kevin Aghani will voice Wario, Waluigi, and other roles Charles Martinet previously voiced is still up in the air though. We’ll just have to wait for Nintendo to give us that info later. Tune back in to THS to learn more Nintendo news when we hear it.
In the meantime, while you’re waiting to hear the voice of Kevin Afghani, you can preorder Super Mario Bros. Wonder straight from the Nintendo eShop.
