Will Ferrell is a huge sports fan. He’s done plenty of press and promotions for the various Southern California sports teams, he’s made countless sports movies, and now, he’s playing John Madden. According to Deadline, Ferrell is joining Madden with David O. Russell at Amazon/MGM.
The movie was written by Cambron Clark, which tells the story of John Madden’s post-coaching career and how the Madden video game series came to be. He teamed up with Electronic Arts to become the co-creator of one of the longest-running and highest-selling video game series of all time.
Ferrell has recently done some work with AppleTV+ like Spirited and the miniseries The Shrink Next Door. He’ll join up with director David O. Russell who’s coming off the film Amsterdam and the upcoming Super Toys with Sacha Baron Cohen and Keke Palmer.
Madden is routinely on the highest-selling games of the year and has become a cultural phenomenon. This story should be good and sounds somewhat similar to that of Amazon’s AIR that released earlier this year. We’ll have to see how the film turns out when its released. There is no release date or filming schedule yet.
