You know how the original Yellow Ranger (AKA: Trini Kwan, played by Thuy Trang) left Mighty Morphin Power Rangers due to payment issues along with the original Red Ranger and Black Ranger? With the show explaining the departure as them all heading to Switzerland for a peace conference? Well, it appears that an upcoming Power Rangers special titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always is going to officially expand on that departure. Complete with coming up with an in-universe explanation for the death of Thuy Trang back in 2001. All courtesy of Netflix, of course. Don’t believe me? Netflix is proud to announce Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always with that official YouTube trailer above. Said trailer reveals that some serious drama is going to happen in this special. To start with, it seems that the special is going to explain the passing of Thuy Trang as Yellow Ranger dying in-universe. Not only that, but a resurrected Rita Repulsa is apparently going to be the murderer here. Why? Well, she’s the villain. Does she really need any more reason than that?
It’s not just Yellow Ranger that’s the tragic star of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always though. Apparently, the original Red Ranger Jason Lee Scot (played by Austin St. John) and the original Black Ranger Zack Taylor (played by Walter Emanuel Jones) will return to reprise their original roles once more. It seems that the whole special is basically a reunion for all the old cast of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It certainly looks like it will be a nostalgic treat for fans of the franchise.
Fortunately, you won’t have long to wait until you can see this bit of nostalgia. At the very end of the trailer, it reveals that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always will make its debut on April 19, 2022. That’s just over 3 weeks away as of this writing, so it’s not that long a wait. Unfortunately, it will be a Netflix exclusive, as you might expect from the trailer. So if you want to watch it, you need to get a paid Netflix subscription. Fortunately, if you’re a Power Rangers fan, you probably already have it due to all the Power Rangers content Netflix has. So mark that date on your calendar, and wait for it to finally morph into action on Netflix.
