Amid a large story of news involving the upcoming Damon Lindelof Star Wars feature from The Hollywood Reporter was a bit about the story of the upcoming film. While there are almost no concrete plot details available, the one thing they did mention in that story was about the story being set in a post-Rise of Skywalker era. They did make specific mention about the film not being about the Skywalker saga, but could include characters from the sequel trilogy.
The project also features Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) directing and co-written by Justin Britt-Gibson, a young writer with credits on The Strain and The Counterpart. The interesting thing about this script was the writer’s room that came together following this year’s Star Wars Celebration. It includes Patrick Somerville, Rayna McClendon, Andy Greenwald, and possibly Dave Filoni.
The movie is supposed to be a standalone project but their sources say that it could lead to more movies, as is the case with anything in Hollywood. As for other Star Wars projects, Rogue Squadron from Patty Jenkins is on the back burner after being shelved from its December 2022 release date. The other two projects from Kevin Feige with Michael Waldron writing and another film with Taika Waititi directing and Krysty Wilson-Cairns writing are still in development.
The earliest this Lindelof-Britt-Gibson project could release is December 2025, when the release schedule for Lucasfilm opens back up.
