If you live in Los Angeles, you know how hellacious it is to drive across the city from the foothills to past Downtown Los Angeles. The 110 Freeway is more terrifying than any horror movie villain that you can think of. Freddy Krueger? He’s got nothing on the guy driving his BMW 25 MPH over the speed limit. So when Spirit Halloween came calling to come check out their flagship location in Los Angeles located right near LAX airport, I was apprehensive. However, when they mentioned that they would have donuts and “mocktails” (without booze, it was 9:00 AM, you animals), I was in.
If you’re in town or you want to see just how bombastic a Spirit Halloween location can be, this is basically the Costco of Spirit Halloween locations. If your location doesn’t have something, they have it here. Whether that’s a gargantuan Killer Klowns From Outer Space animatronic or some cozy Ghostface pajamas from Scream, you can get lost looking at everything on offer.
The experience overall was awesome and I got to speak a bit with some of the Spirit Halloween team about the season and some of their favorite items in store. There were even local news reporters dressed as various characters like a Killer Klown, Eddie (from Stranger Things), and a Ringmaster. Some of the highlights of the animatronics were Grim the Giant Skeleton. So imagine those 12-foot tall Skeletons you can get at Home Depot, except now it’s an animatronic complete with beady eyes and voice lines. That’s what greets you when you walk in. You might not be able to build Dr. J. Reaper’s Monster Laboratory on your front lawn, but you can get damn close with some of these frightful items.
The Highlights Of Spirit Halloween
Naturally, at a Spirit Halloween location, you’d want some animatronics, some merchandise, but most important are the costumes. That’s really what Halloween is all about after all. Fear not, if you want to be Jason Voorhees, The Joker, an ’80s workout girl, or even dress your kid up as Buzz Lightyear, they had it all. When I say, this is the Costco of Halloween stores, I mean it.
It wasn’t just costumes however, there were plenty of other Halloween-themed items including Funko Pops of the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus, entire walls dedicated to Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, and slasher villains. It’s like a horror nerd’s heaven in here.
Really, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Spirit Halloween, any location. This one in Los Angeles just happens to be one of the best around. So if you’re in the area, and you’re in need of some Halloween decorations, animatronics, costumes, merchandise, or anything else related to the holiday, they’ve got you covered.
Check it out at 8820 S Sepulveda Blvd, Westchester, CA 90045.
If you can’t find it in-store, they have plenty of products available online at SpiritHalloween.com.
