Move over, Jack Sparrow. The Gentleman Pirate is sailing into HBO Max, and the high seas will never be the same.
The new pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death comes from executive producer Taika Waititi. The HBO Max series revealed a trailer today, and it’s definitely got that Waititi humor. Check it out below:
Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the adventures of a real-life 18th century pirate, Stede Bonnet. In the series, Rhys Darby stars as Bonnet, who trades in his life as a gentleman for that of a swashbuckling buccaneer. Or he will be anyways, once he gets the hang of things. As he attempts to lead a potentially mutinous crew, Stede ends up crossing paths with the most famous pirate of them all, Blackbeard (Waititi).
In addition to Darby and Waititi, the trailer showcases a number of the show’s guest stars. You can spot Leslie Jones and Fred Armisen getting their pirate life on. Additional stars and guests include Kristen Schall, Nick Kroll, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, Guz Khan, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte and Nat Faxon. Our Flag Means Death comes from creator and showrunner David Jenkins (People of Earth).
Our Flag Means Death premieres on HBO Max March 3.
