Since Dear Evan Hansen first graced stages six years ago, it’s been a hit with critics and audiences alike.
Now, with the feature adaptation of the musical headed to theaters soon, even more people will be able to experience the emotional story.
In a new clip promoting the film, several of the stars discuss the impact of the stage musical and what it means to be involved in this adaptation. Hear from Ben Platt, Julianne Moore, Amy Adams, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, and more below:
“I remember when I first saw Dear Evan Hansen how surprised I was. How emotional it is,” says Julianne Moore.
Dear Evan Hansen stars Ben Platt as Evan Hansen, a high schooler suffering from social anxiety. The suicide of a fellow classmate pushes him down a difficult journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
“Being a part of this has meant so much to me. I was initially so moved when I saw it on stage. There’s so many people who need to see Evan’s story,” says Amy Adams.
The feature adaptation comes from director Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being A Wallflower). In addition to Platt’s Evan Hansen, the film stars six-time Oscar nominee Adams and Oscar winner Moore. Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Colton Ryan, Nik Dodani, DeMarius Copes, and Danny Pino also star.
Award-winning songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land, The Greatest Showman) provide the music and lyrics. Ahead of the film’s release, you can stream new covers of one of the musical’s hit songs. Listen to “The Anonymous Ones” performed by SZA and Amandla Stenberg here.
