It’s that time again… The time to announce more theatrical release delays. On the chopping block this week? Furiosa and Salem’s Lot.

Furiosa moves almost a full year, from a previously announced release of June 2023 to a new date of May 24, 2024. The Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff flick will showcase the origin story of Furiosa. Anya Taylor-Joy will star as the title character, who was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. George Miller returns to co-write, direct, and produce the film with his longtime partner Doug Mitchell. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also star. Production begins next year.

Salem’s Lot shifts from this winter to the following fall, with a new release date of September 9, 2022. The film adapts Stephen King’s popular vampire novel of the same name. Gary Dauberman – who also worked on King’s two recent It films – adapts and directs the feature. Salem’s Lot stars Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, Spencer Treat Clark, and William Sadler.

Furiosa and Salem’s Lot are just the most recent entries in a long list of shifting movie premieres. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, studios have been forced to make repeated adjustments to release plans. Other recent shifts include moves for major blockbusters coming from Paramount. Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible 7 both jumped significantly backwards.
