My Hero Academia, surprisingly, comes out on top in terms of manga sales for 2020. Looks like even Tanjiro and co. can’t beat Izuku and Class 1-A just yet.
Crunchyroll recently released a list of the top-selling manga of 2020, using data from NPD BookScan. The list features the top 20 titles, and it covers individual manga volumes rather than whole series. Based on that list, My Hero Academia definitely stands out as taking the most slots. 11 out of 20 slots features the adventures of Izuku Midoriya and Class 1-A. Of note is the very first volume, which takes the number one spot on the list.
The only other manga series to even come close to beating My Hero Academia is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. 4 out of 20 slots stars Tanjiro and co.’s adventures in demon slaying. There are other great manga series in there like The Promised Neverland and Tokyo Ghoul, but they each take up one slot only. None of them come close to beating Izuku and Class 1-A.
My Hero Academia Not Done Yet
As impressive as dominating the manga sales charts is, what’s even more impressive is that My Hero Academia is also dominating graphic novel charts period. A recent list of the top 20 best-selling adult graphic novel sales of 2020 shows Izuku and Class 1-A beating the likes of even Watchmen and Strange Planet. 9 out of 20 slots feature My Hero Academia volumes, with the first volume once more taking first place. Izuku Midoriya’s origin story is proving to be just as popular as any Marvel hero’s origin story.
Conclusion
My Hero Academia dominates the sale charts of 2020 manga titles. Even better, the manga series by Kohei Horikoshi dominates even the adult graphic novel sales of 2020. Looks like Izuku Midoriya and Class 1-A continue to prove that they’re among the best superheroes the world has ever known.
