The latest Agatha Christie adaptation Death on the Nile released its first trailer.
The murder mystery thriller brings back Detective Hercule Poirot. The classic investigator has his own series of Christie novels, but fans most recently saw him on screen in Murder on the Orient Express.
In Death on the Nile, Poirot becomes involved in a deadly love triangle while on vacation in Egypt. Check out the first star-studded trailer below:
The film focuses heavily on exploring “unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy.”
“I ask you, have you ever loved so much, been so possessed by jealousy, that you might kill?” Poirot asks in the trailer.
Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as Detective Poirot. Much like its Orient Express predecessor, Death on the Nile promises cosmopolitan travelers in period-piece garb, played by a number of familiar faces. These suspects include Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright.
Michael Green adapted Christie’s novel for screen. Green also adapted Murder on the Orient Express in 2017.
Death on the Nile was previously adapted for screen in 1978. In the earlier film, Peter Ustinov played Poirot. The other travelers were Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, Maggie Smith, Angela Lansbury, George Kennedy, Jane Birkin, Jack Warden, and David Niven.
Murder on the Orient Express managed to gross over $350 million. If Death on the Nile also proves a success, we might see an entire Poirot extended universe.
Death on the Nile scheduled a theatrical release for October 23.
