The battle between Good and Evil comes to Earth – and takes feline form – in Exploding Kittens

The new project from Netflix turns the bestselling card game of the same name into an animated series. Check out the official trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis of Exploding Kittens from Netflix:

Earth sucks, so God (Tom Ellis) gets fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity. The catch? He’s trapped in the body of a chubby house cat. As part of his rehabilitation, he moves in with a dysfunctional family and tries to solve their problems, but ends up spending a lot of time chasing laser pointers. And to top it off, Godcat’s next-door neighbor, who is also a cat, turns out to be none other than his nemesis, the Antichrist. The result is the ultimate fight between good versus evil…except, Godcat is distracted by a pigeon he saw in the yard and Devilcat (Sasheer Zamata) is busy napping on someone’s laptop.

Matthew Inman, founder of the webcomic The Oatmeal and co-creator of the Exploding Kittens game, serves as co-showrunner with Shane Kosakowski.

“I figured Exploding Kittens would always be just a game,” Inman told Tudum. “I read an interview once with the South Park guys where they talked about how they made South Park, and then went on to make movies like BASEketball and Orgazmo. In their minds, those movies were their future, rather than some silly cartoon about kids who live in Colorado. I feel like this has been my relationship with Exploding Kittens — I discount it because it’s ‘just a game,’ but every day it continues to grow.  Praise our Lord and Savior Godcat for that, I suppose.”

In addition to Ellis and Zamata, the extended voice cast for the series also includes Suzy Nakamura, Mark Proksch, Ally Maki, and Kenny Yates.

Exploding Kittens will premiere on Netflix this July. Until then, check back to THS for more updates.
