Thomas Doherty (Gossip Girl) has been selected for the role of Leo in the upcoming season of Hulu’s Tell Me Lies. Leo is a Junior at Baird who recently returned to campus after a year of studying abroad. Upon his return, he is immediately captivated by Lucy, (Grace Van Patten). Leo exudes both kindness and charm, but Lucy is uncertain about placing complete trust in him. As the story progresses, Leo becomes entangled in the complex dynamics of Lucy and Stephen’s toxic relationship, adding further layers to the narrative.

WHAT IS TELL ME LIES?

Tell Me Lies is based on the book of the same name. Of course, the series expands on its books by adding characters and storylines. However, at the core of both are Lucy and Stephen, played by Grace Van Patten (Nine Perfect Strangers) and Jackson White (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines). The series is set in 2007 at a fictional upstate New York school called Baird College. It chronicles their turbulent romance over the course of eight years.

The Season 1 finale ends on a very unexpected cliffhanger and was full of jaw-dropping reveals. We learn the true events behind Macy’s death. Stephen breaks up with Lucy and begins hooking up with Diana, who offers him a job and her dad’s firm. In their drunken bitterness, Lucy and Evan hook up. We then get shot forward to Evan and Bree’s engagement party from the first episode.

In this scene, Wrigley makes an appearance. Evan makes a comment that implies Drew’s passing. Lucy expresses her genuine happiness for Bree. But none of that matters. As Lucy locks eyes with Stephen across the crowd, he approaches her and compliments her appearance. However, he interrupts their conversation to answer a phone call and inform the person on the other end of his whereabouts. After ending the call, Stephen admits that he is still adjusting to using the word “fiancé”. Of course, we all assume it’s going to be Diana, but no! The unexpected twist reveals that Stephen is actually engaged to Lucy’s old best friend, Lydia!

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FOR SEASON 2!

Showrunner/writer for the series Meaghan Oppenheimer shares that the plan for season 2 is to kick everything up a notch!

“I think there will be some revenge plots in Season 2,” the writer told TVLine in October 2022, referring to Lucy knowing Stephen’s secret about the car accident. “I don’t think that [Lucy] can tell people about [Stephen] being in the car because he made it so clear to her that if she were to tell that, she also have to admit all these other things, and I don’t think she’s at a place where she’s willing to risk that social annihilation and admit how badly she behaved, especially now that she’s seen that it wasn’t even worth it.”

While there’s no set date release date for season 2 of Tell Me Lies this means the show is currently in production! I am so stoked to see Thomas Doherty joining this messy show.
