Spy x Family Ch. 94 is one of the best not-crossovers in manga history. Entirely because it’s a not-crossover with Detective Conan. Complete with the Forgers showing that one truth (along with one spy, one assassin, and one telepath) will always prevail.
Spy x Family Ch. 94: Details
Spy x Family Ch. 94 (officially known as Mission 94) is the latest chapter of the manga by Tatsuya Endo (Blade of the Moon Princess, TISTA). This chapter has absolutely nothing to do with the events of the previous chapter. Nothing at all aside from the main characters.
Casey Loe returns as the translator for Spy x Family Ch. 94, with Rina Mapa also returning as the letterer. Shueisha originally published this manga in Japan under their Jump Comics+ imprint in the magazine Shōnen Jump+. Viz Media is the company publishing this manga in English in the NA region.
When and Where to Read
Spy x Family Ch. 94 made its online debut on January 21, 2024. You can read this chapter entirely for free on Shonen Jump on Viz Media. Ch. 94 will remain free for 2 chapter releases after it. Upon the release of the third chapter after it, Ch. 94 will go into the Shonen Jump vault. Once there, you will have to pay a subscription fee to read it and all previous chapters. Admittedly, the fee is only $2.99 per month, so it’s not that big a hit to your wallet. All the same, if you’re short on cash, then you might want to hurry up and read Ch. 94 for free before you can’t anymore.
Anime Adapation Details
As a side note: Spy x Family now has an anime adaptation that premiered on April 9, 2022. In fact, season 2 just recently premiered on October 7, 2023 and even more recently ended on December 23, 2023. There was even an anime film spinoff called Spy x Family Code: White that premiered on December 22, 2023, but only in Japan for now as of this writing. You can watch all episodes on either Crunchyroll or Hulu. Note, though, that only Crunchyroll has any of the dubs. So if you like watching the English dub for some reason, then you have to watch the anime on Crunchyroll.
Spy x Family Ch. 94: Plot Summary
Spy x Family Ch. 94 starts us off with something harmless: Anya watching Bondman skiing in his latest animated escapade. As you might imagine, this immediately leads to Anya deciding she wants to go skiing. Loid’s initial refusal is no match for Anya’s crying face, and thus, the entire Forger family heads to a local snowy mountain to ski. All as a reward for Anya earning a Stella Star via academic achievement…and a Tonitrus Bolt in the same test, but let’s not talk about that. Thus, the entire Forger family (Bond included) gets to have a nice snowy vacation.
But alas, the fun and games comes to an end when a sudden blizzard forces the Forgers to take shelter in a cabin with a bunch of strangers. A bunch of strangers (mostly college students) with very punny names like “Needa Jobsoon” (To the pungeon with ye!). However, it quickly becomes clear that someone has a grudge (and a love of Detective Conan) when one of the strangers is found with a frozen carrot stabbed into his back. All in an apparent attempt to act out a silly ghost story about a murderous snowman.
Thankfully, Loid is a doctor and is able to stabilize the victim. Even more fortunately, Anya’s telepathy reveals that it’s the cabin owner who’s the murderous serial killer…all because the students are loud and leave a mess. Thus, with Anya’s oddly precise request to wait by a specific door at a specific time, Loid is able to catch the killer before he could strike again. Loid hands the killer over to the police when they arrive, Anya has her fun ski adventure after all, and so all’s well that ends well? At least, until the next chapter of Spy x Family.
Spy x Family Ch. 94: The Good
The story of Spy x Family Ch. 94 is definitely the best part about it. Detective Conan fans will get the maximum value out of this not-quite-a-crossover story. Heck, we even get Haniwa-san making a cameo appearance in this chapter. It’s like Tatsuya Endo wanted a Detective Conan-esque story without having to go through copyright territory. Thus, this Detective Conan-esque plotline in which the Forger family gets to act out their detective fantasies…and suggesting far beyond Conan Edogawa’s wildest dreams. Basically, if the kid detective had been there, he would’ve had nothing to do.
Spy x Family Ch. 94: The Bad
Honestly, the only thing bad about Spy x Family Ch. 94 is for people who haven’t even heard of Detective Conan in their lives. It’s not that this entire chapter will go over your head in that case. It’s more you will miss all the subtle references to Detective Conan. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, then may I suggest giving this anime a watch on Crunchyroll? If you’re a fan of murder mysteries and spy thrillers, then this would be the anime for you.
