She might have played the character in the mid-2000’s, but it looks like Jennifer Garner is coming back as Elektra in the upcoming Deadpool 3.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Garner has joined the cast of Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The project is currently filming right now with director Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds making his MCU debut as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool.

It’s looking like the project is a mashup of the old Fox universe of Marvel characters. They previously owned the film rights to X-Men, Daredevil, Deadpool, Elektra, and more. Those rights transferred over when Disney bought Twentieth Century Fox in 2019.

Garner first played the role in 2003 in the Ben Affleck-led Daredevil. The film wasn’t a huge hit, but it spawned the spin-off Elektra in 2005. That movie was even less of a hit, but it was a noteworthy film because Garner was one of the first women to lead a comic-book movie.

For those that are tired or weary of the multiverse aspect of recent superhero films, you might want to look away. This casting points to Deadpool 3 going through a multiverse of Fox-Marvel characters. It’s also a possibility that other Fox-Marvel characters could show up during the film.

Deadpool 3 is the first R-rated movie in the history of Marvel Studios and brings back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine after his acclaimed performance in Logan.

Jennifer Garner previously starred alongside Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy in Netflix’s The Adam Project.

This is a developing story. We’ll keep you updated.
