PlayStation Showcase 2023 just revealed their lineup of games incoming for the PS5, and said lineup includes Towers of Aghasba. What is it, you might ask? Well, according to some news sources, it’s apparently the next The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Normally, I would find that claim to be…more than a bit dubious. However, after seeing the trailer for myself, it’s starting to get my hopes up. Despite still being a pretty far way away, no less. Don’t believe me? Towers of Aghasba Trailer: Analysis
The YouTube announcement trailer for Towers of Aghasba reveals that developer Dreamlit Games have a very promising PS5 game in the works. We even see some very promising gameplay footage in said trailer. Granted, the video description notes that the footage is still in early Beta. However, if this is just an early Beta, I already have high hopes for the actual game when it eventually comes out.
The Towers of Aghasba trailer starts with the main character shipwrecking themself on a barren, ashen land apparently devoid of life. It doesn’t stay barren for long though. The main character apparently gathers resources from the land to craft massive buildings. These buildings are apparently the first step in reclaiming the land for their people. The main character can also apparently seed the land with plant life, including massive tree things. The land eventually becomes so fertile that huge flying creatures soar through the sky, which the main character reaches by (Da da da!) a paraglider. You know, just like the kind Link used in Breath of the Wild? Now you can see the comparison there.
Frankly, Towers of Aghasba looks like it could be the next Breath of the Wild, really. With a focus on highly detailed, realistic graphics compared to Breath of the Wild‘s artsy style. It looks like you can even play house in the game, unlike in Breath of the Wild.
Unfortunately, it will be a long while before we get to see if the game is as good as the trailer promises to be. The end of the trailer only mentions that Towers of Aghasba will come out sometime in 2024. So we might end up with an over-year-long wait for this game. Judging from that trailer alone though, it might be worth it.
