Vinland Saga fans, rejoice! For they have just announced the long-awaited season 2 with a brand new (and very much epic in all senses of the word) trailer! Check it out below:
The Epic Viking Anime Returns!
This epic trailer for Vinland Saga season 2 on YouTube not only gives us a look at a more peaceful side to the normally violent story, but we also get an actual release date for this anime. Apparently, season 2 will premiere sometime in January 2023. The premiere will happen on the Tokyo MX and BS11 channels. However, since it’s still too early to tell, there’s no word on any NA release. Presumably, Amazon Prime Video will stream this anime just like they’re doing with season 1. However, this is just speculation until we get actual confirmation from Amazon. Take it with a grain of salt until then.

Vinland Saga: Details
Vinland Saga is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Makoto Yukimura (Planetes). Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Ranking of Kings, Spy x Family) was the animation studio behind season 1, but now MAPPA (Zombie Land Saga, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan) will be the animation studio behind season 2. Shūhei Yabuta remains the director, with Naokado Fujiwara, Yōko Ueda, and Mitsuhiro Sugita producing; and Hiroshi Seko and Kenta Ihara writing. Yutaka Yamada will still compose that epic music you hear in the anime. Finally, Prime Video licensed this anime for its NA release.
As for what Vinland Saga is about? Well, in case the title didn’t clue you in, it’s all about anime Vikings in all of their bloody glory. Amazon Prime Video has an official synopsis that explains it better below if you don’t mind the sketchy English for some reason:
“Around the end of the millennium, Viking, the mightiest but atrocious tribe, had been outbreaking everywhere. Thorfinn, the son of the greatest warrior, lived his childhood in the battlefield. He was seeking the land of reverie called Vinland. This is the story of a true warrior in an age of turmoil.”
You can watch Vinland Saga season 1 only on Prime Video. Netflix claims to be streaming it, but as of this writing, they lie. You can’t find it anywhere if you search for the anime on their website.
